Wow – how did we pull this shoot off today? Mid-afternoon on a Tuesday and after uploading and setting up an entire afternoon’s worth of props and accessories at the pool at my new complex in Marina del Rey, our photographer Lauren Devon and set designer Rachel Swetnam were informed that we didn’t have the permission we thought, and had to pack everything up, load it back into the car, and settle on a new location to shoot.I often live by motto that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission, yet this was not the case today with the property authorities. Meanwhile, we were off to a late start due to unforeseen circumstances, and styling begins 2 hours after our call time, allowing us a mere two hour window to get to the location and shoot. But we were determined to make this work!

Our gorgeous model Telena an ivy league law student who also runs a fashion blog called The Fashion Brewery. Talk about brains and beauty! From my living room and while Lauren and Rachel dealt with the property security, Telena got all glammed up thanks to our extremely talented makeup artist Victoria Aje as well as her own personal hair dresser, Regina Jackson. We did our fitting and hit the beach about a mile away.

Feeling the pressure at this point, we finally found two perfect parking spots, and walked down to a nearly empty beach, simply hoping we didn’t get caught without a permit. Lauren had a brilliant idea that since we had such a large crew of six women, we could set up as if we were just spending a day at the beach. Thanks to this ingenuity and Rachel’s prop display, we did just that, and had no issues when the police drove by to survey the premis.

Lauren and Telena raced to the ocean and began playing, shooting, and immediately we got some amazing shots within the few first minutes – it was incredible. Thankfully we had Rachel Shooting behind – the – scenes shots to catch a lot of the fun, and of course Victoria to touch up makeup. Thanks so much Telena and Rachel for supplying us much of the gorgeous accessories used in the shoot.
